The Apple iPad: I WANT ONE!
After months of anticipation and excitement, Apple CEO Steven Jobs unveiled the giant's new creation: The Apple iPad.
According to apple.com, this revolutionary device will change the way we do things on the web with just a simple, single tap. What sets this gadget apart from its contenders is its multi-touch capabilities that exceeds its smaller siblings (the iPod Touch and the iPhone). Not to mention the $499 starting price for 16 GB Wi-Fi models. Additionally, wireless connectivity on-the-go for the 3G enabled models makes this Apple innovation distinctive starting at $629.
Personally, I reckon that the iPad is just a 9.7 inch iPod touch with better, fancier, and niftier features. It honestly makes everything we do on the world wide web very interactive and remarkably personal. Imagine yourself updating your blog or social networking account with just an effortless tap. *wink*wink*
I'd better start saving before its international release (around June or July, 2010)!
Visit apple.com for more information.
iPad, anyone? Haha.

American Idol 9
American Idol fever is back for its 9th season and it seems that this will be bigger and better than the previous one.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of hopefuls gather in selected cities in the US to show the AI judges that they have the looks, the talent and the guts to be America's next big singing sensation. Sadly, only an exclusive number of contestants will make this prestigious cut and only one of them will be proclaimed American Idol number 9. Woohoo!
According to the US Nielsen, a steady 29.8 million people watched the 2-hour Idol premier last January 12, 2010, as compared to last year's 30.4 million viewers. The show dominated its time slot and proved that a talent search sprinkled with a little drama, fashion and honesty can really pull some strings.
I have been closely watching this show since my college days and it never fails to amaze me every single time. Seriously! This show produced some of the best performers I've heard and seen. Not to mention that it values raw, untapped talent that needs to be developed and shown to the world.
Let's take Kelly Clarkson as an example. I never thought she'd win Season 1 (I was actually betting on Justin Guarini. Hmph!). Plus, Jennifer Hudson's performance in Dream Girls earned her an Academy Award. And to think she didn't even made it to the top 3! Come on!
So far, I love Leah Laurenti. She's so pretty and the Jazz thing is very feisty!
And this definitely made my day! Pants on the ground, people!
So, who will be the next American Idol? We'll just have to wait and see! I can't wait! Yipee!

On Twitter
Just got home from a 24-hour shift and I'm so dizzy. Uggh.
The hospital, especially our unit, was in urgent need of extra personnel last night to cover the sharp increase in patients that I was summoned by the Deputy Director of Nursing to do a 24-hour shift. Bummer. I didn't even have enough time to think things through. I just blurted out "Okay" to settle everything. *sigh*
Anyways, my little sister was constantly inviting me to join twitter so that her followers would, eventually, grow.
Hence, my twitter account:
Honestly, it was supposed to be the same thing as my blog's name (paulorn). Unfortunately for me, someone already owns it. So, I thought that using my blog's title, A Nurse's Note, would be proper and precise. Yippee!
Personally, I feel that twitter is a manner of expressing one's beliefs and ideologies via the world wide web without any constraints, inhibitions, or limits. Of course, social responsibility is essential in anything or everything that we post. This is the internet for crying out loud! Everyone's reading or posting everything! Haha.
I just hope that I'd have enough guts to say everything I want to say out loud. Haha.

Final Countdown
I will never forget this shot. Taken on the 5th of June, 2009 during the busiest season of the year, Xyrkie managed to shoot this image right in front of the hospital security camera amidst a number of patients calling for some form of help. Haha. Kudos, Xyrkie!
In a few months time, I will be saying "Adios!" to this wonderful bunch of deranged nurses. Ate Ellen and Xyrkie were the first ones to end their agonizing contracts and Hazel's next by May. Yikes!
I can't imagine a day without these exceptional individuals. They make work amusing, effortless and nonchalant all at the same time. We even laugh about our mistakes like toddlers playing soccer in the street!
They taught me everything I know: how to do this and that. When to talk to this doctor and when not. What to do about a certain event and why it is happening. It goes on and on and on. They even demonstrated how to cheat certain things! Haha.
Unfortunately, we all have to go on our own separate ways and pursue the paths we choose. DAFH is just one of them. Who knows. Maybe, at some point in the future, makikita ko sila ulit and reminisce the good and bad times, right?
Ngayon pa lang, miss ko na sila. *sigh*

24
Anyways, I celebrated my 24th birthday with my co-workers last night after careful analysis of all pro's and con's. Plus, I thought of the event as a treat for a year's worth of work-related pain. Haha.
I will never forget this night! For the very first time, I felt really excited about my birthday since most, if not all, of my immediate co-workers will be there. Yipee!
[caption id="attachment_761" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="John Boy, Kristel, Mark, Ate Ruby, and Donato as my helpers."][/caption]
Unequipped with the necessary skills for cooking and party planning, I sought the help of my flat-mates (John Boy and Mark) and my beloved sister Ruby. Donato and Kristel brought some added muscle to decorate our loft. Thanks, guys!
[caption id="attachment_762" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Personalized Invitations"][/caption]
I seriously wanted this event to be exclusive and intimate so I handed out personalized invitations to individuals who I deemed worthy of my friendship.
[caption id="attachment_765" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Unit 12?! Panalo!"][/caption]
Of course, I invited my crazy Unit 12 Family to shake things up. They certainly blew everyone off their seats!
[caption id="attachment_764" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="People! Answer the call bell! PLEASE!"][/caption]
"Matatapos din ang araw na 'to!" That's what we usually say during times of desperation. I am so happy that I am a part of this bunch of lunatics!
[caption id="attachment_766" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Saya naman! Sana ganito tayo sa duty!"][/caption]
Amidst the tension of work and harshness of homesickness, we still manage to stand altogether and smile. Say "G-A-R-A-S"!
[caption id="attachment_767" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="My October Neighbors"][/caption]
As always, my supportive neighbors were there to have their fill.
[caption id="attachment_768" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Joanna, Lesley and Jennifer."][/caption]
Dianne and Ate Rosalie were on duty so Jo, Les and Jen represented their apartment. Happy birthday pala sa brother ni Joanna!
[caption id="attachment_770" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Ate Barbs?! Gabi na kaya!"][/caption]
Ate Barbara paved the way to fun! She's like our leader of some sort! Love you, Ate Barbs!
[caption id="attachment_771" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Ma'am Delia?!"][/caption]
I even invited Unit 11's Area Supervisor, Ms. Delia, to join our festivities. Can we answer the bell later, Ms. Delia?
Of course, I devised a number of party games, again, to keep the festivities light and refreshing. I decided to keep the 3 main teams and add newbies in each squad.
[caption id="attachment_772" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Team Jumbo Hotdog"][/caption]
Team Jumbo Hotdog got themselves powered up with Nemfa, Lesley and Lovelyn as additional members. Would they be enough to maintain the team's championship aura?
[caption id="attachment_773" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Team The V-est"][/caption]
The V in Team The V-est was meant for their latest member, Mr. Victor Bayani. Even Jennifer and Ms. Attitude, Hazel, decided to join this promising team. Can they finally redeem themselves after a tainted Christmas issue?
[caption id="attachment_774" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Team Song"][/caption]
Revenge. That's what kept this gang intact. With Nenita, Melissa, Melanie and Joanna, Team Song seeks to conquer everything in their path. Will they conquer center stage after the challenging holidays?
[caption id="attachment_775" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Take it easy, Kuya Crispin!"][/caption]
"Endorsement Paper Dance" was, as expected, dirty. Everyone tried to challenge everything. Even the songs! Guys! Keep it cool, please?
[caption id="attachment_776" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="The October Party Animals?!"][/caption]
As expected, the October Party Animals got their groove on! They shook their booties like there's no tomorrow!
[caption id="attachment_777" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Get it out, Ate!"][/caption]
"Pass the line" was something new. It actually got kinda kinky by the minute. Sorry!
[caption id="attachment_778" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Ate Barbs! For crying out loud!"][/caption]
Ate Barbs terribly wanted to nail this game. You can honestly see it in her dazzling eyes and shiny smile.
[caption id="attachment_779" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="The Longest Line Part 2"][/caption]
The all time favorite "The Longest Line" got everybody thinking of ways to win. They even borrowed my scarf! Come on!
[caption id="attachment_780" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Tama na yan, Kuya."][/caption]
Kuya Ritchie was frantic about this game. Keeping in mind the team's defect last December, he actually double-checked every single detail of their team's line.
[caption id="attachment_781" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Dive kung dive!"][/caption]
"Where are my coins?" was the last event. They dived their way into a plate looking for coins using a spoon. Then, they should place that coin in a plastic cup. Don't forget to breathe, kids! And be careful!
[caption id="attachment_782" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Slowly but surely, eh?"][/caption]
Lesley was trying her best not to ruin her hair. Just redo the whole thing later, dear, okay?
[caption id="attachment_783" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Performance Level?!"][/caption]
We even sang a few tunes just to keep our moods in a constant high. We were definitely having loads of fun!
[caption id="attachment_784" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="The DAFH Boy Band"][/caption]
Donato and Kuya Ritchie took the next higher step with their stunning rendition of the Hagibis classic "Katawan".
[caption id="attachment_785" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Thank you, guys! Sobra!"][/caption]
All in all, the night was a blast. I had tons of fun and my 3 days worth of overtime certainly paid off. Yipee!

From 6th of October City: Happy Holidays!
This will look like a very late entry, which it really is, but I will still say it out loud:
Happy holidays!
After 3 days of non-stop planning, we finally decided to celebrate Christmas in our very own flat. Of course, our very supportive neighbors supported the motion stating that our loft would be the perfect location for this very special occasion. *sigh*
Of course every nursing area was well represented.
[caption id="attachment_748" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Unit 11? Dong, Garas!"][/caption]
The Unit 11 Staff (Kristel Nadera, Ahmed, and Rachelle Castro)
The Unit 12 Staff (Juan Paulo Gultiano, Donato Politico Jr., Crispin Lopez, and Ritchie Bago)
The Unit 21 Staff (Ahmed and Ruby Anne Gultiano)
The CCU Staff (Maria Liza Mirande, Mark Kevin Labo, and Aidel Grace Ganchorre)
The SICU Staff (John Boy Jerry Camu, Katrina Atizado, Sheila Caniba, Rica Jean Canlas, and Barbara Borinaga)
We even played like toddlers! I thought of nasty and nifty "parlor" games that would lift everyone's spirits for the holiday season.

The Longest Line
Overall, everyone had a wonderful time. It was seriously a break that we badly needed. Unfortunately for me, I had to go to work that same Christmas morning. Haha.
