As mentioned on my earlier post, I did attend the Intravenous Therapy Training at the Philippine Heart Center last March 11 to 13, 2008. I had a lot of fun and definitely learned loads of cool stuff necessary for future use. I also met a lot of interesting individuals from all walks of the profession and spent some quality and hilarious time with my batch mate, Joan "Bibs" Bibal. Fun, fun, fun.
Day 1
- Pre-Test (I got 16 out of 20). Yipee! :)
- Lecture about the foundation on IVT Training in the Philippines.
- Lecture about Fluid and Electrolytes.
- Lecture on Blood Transfusion.
- Lecture on Medication interactions.
Day 2
- Lecture on the venous system of the hands.
- Lecture on the proper insertion of the IV catheter.
- Lecture on IV drug administration.
- Lecture on Total Parenteral Nutrition.
- Practice insertion on dummy arm.
Day 3
- Post-Test (I got 20, I think)
- Work shop with Nurse supervisors.
- Awarding of certificates.
Anyways, day 3 was the best of all because we had the chance to practice all the interesting and technical things we learned in class. Of course, we were graded based on our performance (memory, actually) and we had to pass them all. Obviously and as expected, I passed every single task in a breeze and that made the whole ordeal all worth while.
Here are some images from the said event. Enjoy!
I think she's prepared for anything under the sun.
He's a bit afraid, I think.
Bibs, expect the unexpected. Haha. You can do it!
This is how it should be done. Haha.
My hand post-IV insertion. The pain! The pain!
After 3 days of quasi-boring/exciting lectures and dozens of trials and errors, I definitely learned a lot of things that would seriously boost my Resume and career path some time in the future. Of course, I have to comply with the necessary requirements (6 IV insertions, 6 medication administration and 2 blood transfusions) to obtain the coveted IV Therapy card. Now, the problem lies with the completion. I wonder when and where would that be? Hmmm.
Coffee, anyone?
me! venti caramel frap light! Ü

I was amazed while im reading your blog, anyway may I just ask if when is the exact registration date for november 2008 ivt??? I often go to the Nursing educ. dept. to inquire for details but they always give me uncertain directions. They said that the exact date for the training perse is on Nov. 12-14, but still there's no exact date for the registration, to think there are only more or less 30 trainees and in a 1st come 1st serve basis...
