AFP Nurse Corps. Requirements

After viewing my blog stats for the past few weeks, I suddenly realized that a few number of people who actually strayed here were seriously looking for some pertinent information regarding the Armed Forces of the Philippines Nurse Corps. With that in mind, I have finally decided that I have the responsibility to post the necessary documents and procedures for possible employment to the above mentioned government agency.

Initial Requirements (1 Photocopy of the following documents):
  • Resume with 2x2 picture
  • College Diploma
  • Transcript of Records and Related Learning Experience
  • Certificate of Board Rating and Passing

The following papers will first be brought to the Office of the Chief Nurse at the Heneral Valdez Building (or Building of the Surgeon General) at Camp Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City for initial evaluation.

If you, or any applicant, posses a board rating of 80% and above for the Philippine Nurse Licensure Exam, you will not be required to take a clinical examination involving basic nursing concepts. If otherwise, then you will take the said clinical assessment. After which, an interview will then commence just to gauge the candidate's ability of express themselves amongst superiors and their nursing competency.

Next, after passing the clinical interview, the candidate will undergo a Neuro-Psych. evaluation (tests, actually) at the station hospital, followed by a series of interviews just to ascertain a candidate's proficiency. Then, physical and dental examinations will proceed if the applicant is deemed capable of joining the Nurse Corps. Also, a list of other essential records will need to be submitted, along with the Neuro-Psych. evaluation and physical-dental exam report, to the office of the chief nurse once everything has been done smoothly.

Of course, you will spend a significant amount of money, time, and effort just to secure the desired job. Believe me, they are (the investments mentioned above) very substantial once taken into account.

Note: This is, of course, subject to changes as assigned by the aforementioned government agency. Any interested applicant should be prepared for unexpected circumstances that may occur within the said process. If anyone deems that the material I have shared is inappropriate, inaccurate, inconsistent and/or the like, feel free to correct the things that I have said or written.

Anyways, happy job hunting!

Coffee, anyone?

Errr. That defeats the purpose of it all. You have to be a registered nurse in order to be enlisted in the AFP Nurse Corps. I suggest that you take and pass the November, 2008 NLE, then apply. :)

But I don't know if you have the option to be in the navy, army or air force. But I don't have a job right now and the nursing scene in the US is still frozen, so I think i will pursue my application. Good luck fellow applicants!!! I hope getting ourselves "sa sabak ng gobyerno" is a good choice aye!!!

  39. Mr. loui carlo whoever the hell you are and if that is indeed your pathetic name, your grammar sucks. Are you really a professional/nurse? Coz you sure don't sound like one, you pathetic whiner and loser. If you have something against the AFP or nurses in the corp., go into your own cave and sulk there--or better yet, dig a hole and bury yourself! You better be not a real person working as, what chief nurse in V. Luna.

    ReplyDelete
  40. To all the nurses here, as professionals, that mr. loui carlo is the best example of someone that you should at all cost NOT EMULATE.

We all know getting a job in the Philippines for nurses is hard, so we must grab all available opportunity that comes our way. And yes, sa abroad, most prefer that your previous working experience comes from working in a gov't hospital. And almost all the gov't hospitals in the Philippines naman for some, may padrino, right? But that should not deter you to try. Godbless to all of you in your job hunt :)

  44. Hi! Just strayed here using google because I was wondering what are the requirements needed to enter the AFP engineering brigade? I'm an architect by the way, 29 yrs old.

  45. To Gultiano,

I would like to thank you as a gratitude from the Nurse Corps, AFP. What you did here is not only a help for Filipinos to find a better job but to serve the country as well.

    To all applicants,

The basic requirements you need to bring in a clean long folder of any color you like:
    1. A well prepared Resume with 2x2 picture (white background ONLY)
    2. Copy of Diploma
    3. Copy of Board Rating Cert
    4. Copy of Transcript of Record
    5. Copy of PRC License

Those are just the basics which would be asked of you, but if you really want to impress us..attach copies of your Training Certificates, Red Cross Cert, or anything that you think would give you an edge from other applicants. Submit it in semi formal attire, address all as SIR / MAM in the office and prepare yourself. You will be bullied out by some officers and soldiers, but if you cry and quit.. you fail the first test!

    Basic salary while on training?

    P 16,000.00

    NC

  46. Gultiano, whether you really are a Nurse Corps Officer or not.. I SALUTE YOU! Keep this up and expect my support.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Jessa,

Follow up the status of your application. Go back to the office. May 2008 is already too long.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Jan,

You need to serve for three (3) continuous years. No less.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Arthur,

The expenses you will be spending would depend on where you will be coming from. For the requirements, prepare less than a thousand (P1,000).

    ReplyDelete
  50. Jason Corbes,

Did they not tell you to prepare yourself for training if you passed all the requirements? That would be 45 days Military Orientation Training (MOT). Practice waking up 3 AM, do push ups, sit up and jogging. It would be your first indoctrination to the military life.. You have the option to quit and go home.

  51. Rose,

If you are in Mindanao and really interested, go to the nearest Military Station Hospital near your place and ask for the help of the Chief Nurse or the Nurse In Charge (NIC).

  52. Thanks Paulo for answering my questions. (btw i am chrisignacio.multiply.com)

NC if you're still following this blog, kindly answer my questions. Thanks.

    1. Will the successful applicants be deployed in places such as Basilan and the like or will be in hospital setting?
    2. Can you give us an idea on what will happen during the 6 months training?
    3. I heard that there is an application in Crame, is this the same as application in camp Aguinaldo and V.luna?

Thank you. I'm interested to apply as Nurse Corps but would like to work in hospital setting (if i'll be accepted :D) such as V.Luna.

  56. To all readers,

This blog is just like an open letter which you could create whatever you want to. The net is but just an instrument that could build or destroy ones reputation.

Do not be deceived by whoever is writing for Aquino. That one is not a Nurse Corps Officer. He may know the name of Aquino, but do not know him the way I do.

Just take the good points of this blog and disregard those that is not worth of your time.

Aquino will not write that, just to disgrace himself in such a stupid way!

Did anyone of you ever gave their real name in joining this blog? Will you even dare to say things that would be against you or your family and spread your name for it? You think you'll be a hero for that?

    Just be guided well..

I am an active member of the Nurse Corps, AFP, assigned at the Office of The Chief Nurse, AFP in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City. This office came to know about this blog few days ago from a concerned reader. We would like to rectify the information given to the readers and we deny the statements of certain LOUIE CARLO AQUINO. See you at the office.

  64. Marg,

No specific date of application. Just take it this way -we have to fill up the number of NC Officers in the AFP.
To give you an estimate... we are now 200 (not exactly). The number required by the government is 250 (not exactly).. we need 50 more! Dare to compete with the 50? The training would be for 60 days.. as of Jan 09, previously 45 days. Your training will determine how you would decide to "stay" or "not to stay". You will have a salary while on training. After the training would be your hospital orientation (6 months). The Office of The Chief Nurse, AFP will guide you to process your papers for commissionship while on orientation.

    Arkei,

If your board rating is below 80%, you still have a chance to join! You'll just have to take a more serious, series of exams.. exams... exams.. Just review your notes.

i took an exam in fort bonifacio general hospital and passed it last january, and i also inquired in OCNA there, then they gave me a list of requirements to bring to camp aguinaldo. it's quite confusing but ive prepared it and will be passing it tomorrow. my question is, when will be the next schedule of MOT this year? thanks.

  73. Hi!I am Junalyn Barroga a former NC officer. First of all, I want to thank Juan Paulo for starting this blog. Now ex NC officers will have an avenue to share some bits and pieces about their lives after leaving the AFP, information/insights for those who would opt to join the service, and updates about the Corps. BTW your name sounds familiar.
MAJ JELENNE J QUINTANA or Mam JJ as we call her is the best resource person re: NC application requirements/procedures. Hindi ka na ba namin mapapasunod dito sa ibang bansa Mam! Some of my former students from FEU have applied, could you please update me if they were able to make it to the A list.
Another point, I am surprised about the unpleasant comments posted by a certain MAJ AQUINO. Having known Sir Alou, it's very unlikely for an articulate officer like him to be posting such crap! He's my classmate in Basic Nurse Corps Officer Corps so I have a fair knowledge about how he usually conducts himself.
The Nurse Corps organization is not for the weak-hearted. In the real sense, military nursing is more of a vocation than a profession. The rank/position surely bears a lot of responsibilities and accountabilities. But amidst the issues, being a Nurse Corps officer is a truly rewarding experience. I may not be able to survive here abroad if not for the values that I've learned from the service.

To the NC aspirants, years ago we were in your shoes. As novice nurses we had experienced the same rudiments of job hunting and upon being inducted in the Corps, the constant stress of proving yourself worthy for the rank and position. We had gone for the challenge and were able to cope up with it. And I am sure that you can do the same!

Good luck! God bless you all!

Nagtataning lang kc gf ko ay RN & interested na maging military nurse. Maraming salamat po.

  80. Juna,

Glad to hear from a former colleague. Thanks for upholding the values you've learned during your stay in the service (as member of the Nurse Corps). How are you and the rest of the group? Hope you are all doing fine.
We still recruit nurses and there are applicants from FEU and some are P2LT's already Do send your questions in this email address: otcn_ghq@afp.mil.ph. I will entertain your questions in this address.

Extend our warmest regards to former NC's in your area.
    Take care and God bless.

Hope to hear from you soon.

  81. Manuel,

The training is an orientation to military life, there will be a Physical Fitness Test and the requirements for each category is base on your age. The training is being conducted in a military camp within Manila. You can not choose for your area of assignment.

  82. just a question, what if an interested applicant passes all, and is for training, problem is she cant cope with some of the physical activities in the training, like maybe doing push-ups or sit-ups, but does very well in other areas, would that have a beraing in her evaluation, and will that cost her to be part of the corps? thank you...:)

    Ronj,

We do not accept married applicant.
You can be pre-screened at the office of the chief nurse in a military hospital in 4th Division in Cagayan De Oro City.
    Goodluck.

    Hannah,

You have to pass both the physical examination and the Physical Fitness Test wherein the latter requires push up, sit up and running. There's a saying that practice makes perfect, right? So, start now. Do the physical conditioning.

    Gerald,

Board rating Certificate and PRC licence are required. Do come to our office once you got all the requirements. We still accept applicants.

    Aspiring Nurse Corps,

The process is quite long. Sometimes it takes months or year.

    Dear Ma'am/Sir:

    Greetings of Peace!

I'm a Newly Registered Nurse and very much willing to be part of AFP's Nurse Corps Officers Basic Course. My father is also a soldier and i see the benefits he have received in his length of service.
By the way, I have these questions in my mind that i wanted to be answered before ill go there to your office this end of April 2009 or First week of May 2009. By the way, i live in Cotabato City.

1.) Can i apply without the Actual PRC license??? Because as of now I only have my PRC Certificate as passer of November2008 NLE and my PRC Board Rating...

2.) May I know the coverage of your qualifying examination for those with rating below 80%? Mine is 79.2%...

3.) And does qualifying exam and interview are conducted at same day??? Or does someone has to pass first the examination then have the interview later?

4.) How long would it take the application??? Or can i get the result of the said examination within a month?

5.) If it would take that long....what gonna be the best alternative while staying in Camp Aguinaldo???

6.) Is their a Re-take of your examination and a re-application if ever that i will not be admitted with my application this May2009?

Thank You and More Power to AFP's Nurse Corps!

    Respectfully Your's

    Ms. Guangco, R.N

    Ms Guangco,
These are the answers to your questions re: your application to the Nurse Corps:
    1. PRC license is a requirement.
    2. Same requirements for 80%/less than 80%.
    3. you must pass the written exam first then the interview will be sched later.
    4. it took months to a year for an application to be processed.
    5. while waiting for your application in the NC you may work as OJT or find other job outside the military. Enhance your nursing knowledge and skills to be better equipped or prepared in the future.
    6. No retake.

    ReplyDelete

    MaeMae,
You can come back anytime to submit the required documents.

    Marie,
You should should apply in person. No online application. The board rating is not an issue as long as you passed the Nurse Licensure exam.

    Ronnel,
apply now. We still entertain applicants. The duration of training is 2 months. Its a military orientation course.

    Mac and Warren,
Those wearing eyeglasses will undergo examination with our military Opthalmologist, he is the only person who could tell if you will qualify or not with eyeglasses.

    Nanette Ramos,
Male is accepted. Height requirement: 64 inches.

    CSA,
PRC license is a requirement. Do come to the office with complete documents.

  116. Maj Jelenne j QuintanaMay 12, 2009 at 5:02 PM

want to b a NC, Marie, Jeric and Icko,
We still accept applicants. Do come to the office and apply in person. Bring the complete documents as required.

    Medic28,
If your board rating is above 80%, you still need to take the qualifying exam given by the Office of the Chief Nurse, AFP.

    Ronnie Perocho,
Focus now on your review/preparation for the Board exam. Once you passed the exam and got your license apply to us right away.
After the training you are a Probationary 2LT and you still need to apply for commissionship and called to active duty as 2LT. Firearms? you will know the answer during the training.

    Louise,
Please wear a corporate attire next time. You are already a professional nurse so you must look like one.

    Medic28,
Good to know you have applied to us and took the exam already.

  157. to Aspiring NC,

    to jhojho,

mahirap ang training siyempre. simulan mo ng mag push-up, pull-ups, sit-ups, ska tumakbo
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

sa lahat ng aspiring NC sana ay alam nyo ang pinapasok nyo, sana buo ang desisyon nyo at loob nyo. Hindi basta-basta ng pagiging NC. mahirap sa mahirap at delikado sa delikado. You are a military personnel you can be assigned anywhere..

    regards and good luck =)

  163. i found this info
    from another forum

"For those who possess the following qualifications (with or without ROTC) may opt to join the Technical Service component of the Reserve Force:

    Licensed Physician/Doctor of Medicine
    Licensed Dentist
    Registered Nurse
    Lawyer
    Ordained Priest/Muslim Imam/Protestant Minister
    Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
    Physical/Occupational Therapy
    Physical Radiology
    Physiology
    Social Science
    Sanitary Engineer
    Biological Science
    Radiological Technology
Commerce (Major in Accounting, Economics, AB Humanities, Management)
    Pharmacy
    Medical Technology
    Mechanical Engineer
    Optometrist "

    ReplyDelete
  164. and another one

"The Technical Services are the so-called "4th"Branch of Service of the AFP. Unlike line-officers who are commissioned to a Major Branch of Service, technical officers are commissioned in the following "minor" branches of service depending on their profession/qualifications:

    A.

    Medical Corps (MC)
    Medical Administrative Corps (MAC)
    Veterinary Corps (VC)

which all belong to the AFP Medical Service under The Surgeon General, AFP

    B. Chaplain Service (CHS)
    C. Dental Service (DS)
    D. Nurse Corps (NC)
    E. Judge Advocate General Service (JAGS)

The beauty of being a technical service officer is that we can be detailed to any major branch of service of the AFP. When assigned in a major branch, that's the time that we put the major branch of service unto our name just to identify our Br of Svc assignment. But if assigned/recalled back to our mother technical service & administrative unit, we drop the major branch of service.

On my BDA, I have the GHQ AFP name cloth instead of ARMY, AIR FORCE or NAVY.

Our GOA's color is off-white (upper) and gray pants. Caps are also gray, bush coat dark gray."

twice a year nag co-conduct ng recruitment..
pagnapasa mo yung Physical Fitness Test, Neuro Exam, Series of Interviews, Medical Exam tapos training 6months sa kampo(may sweldo).

She gave me a phone number which I have been trying to contact for days. Can you give me a phone number where I can follow-up my application?

    iya and :)

The duration of the training is 60 days, females should cut their hair shorts but not same cut/length with male.

RN reisdency in AFPMC does not have physical requirements. as long as you passed the qualifying exam you are in.

    Ethel,
Negative thoughts wont help you. How will you know if you will not try. Hope to see you.

  182. good afternoon, major quintana. i am already a registered nurse, male but 5'3 lng height ko, below 80% board rating ko and i'm from davao city. i am really interested to be a military nurse. tanong ko lang po kung may considerations with regards sa height and board rating... thanks ahead of time for the response.

  185. hello po..im happy you have sites like this one...congratulations to the maker..HEHEHE..

    ReplyDelete
  186. hi bernz,,having ROTC training is not required in NC. mahabang proseso kse ang pag apply sa NC specially today, kya pasensya lng. napka rami kse ang aplikante ngaun probably because bumaba ang demand abroad kya dumamia ng aspirant...BUT warning ko lng sa mga aspirants,,,hindi joke ang trabaho sa Nurse Corps..it's a serious business. if the intention is to gain experience,,well you'll survive for a few years..however if your intent is to serve genuinely the people...i think you'll last forever.. gud lak..

  189. Maj Jelenne j Quintana,

    thanks...
