My Psych Test Results

I was socializing with some senior Psychology students from the Pasig Catholic College the other day when one of them mentioned something about psychological testing done on psychiatric patients. Being the gossip guy that I am, I asked a couple of nonchalant questions about the said matter. She explained that these exams (there are loads of them!) are done "to uncover the relationship between a client's current mental state with his or her past life experiences: it ranges from a patient's IQ, personal and family history to his or her sexual and educational life." Very intriguing, if I say so myself.

Obviously, I questioned its precision and accuracy and whether it applies even to everyone else, like me. She said that they use a certain "manual" to determine the results and that it is about 95% to 100% accurate. She then challenged me to draw 3 things on a piece of paper: a tree, a person and a house. Taking my tri-colored pen and a prescription pad into action, I let my hand and imagination fly into nirvana.

Hence, my personal masterpiece. *clap*clap* :)

Draw a tree, a person and a house.
Draw a tree, a person and a house. Haha. :)

Afterwards, she explained some key features in my drawings and they go something like this:

House

  • Tiny but well drawn- Has feelings of inadequacy.

  • Floating house- Schizophrenia due to character disorder.

  • Overemphasis on the roof- Suspicious.

  • Very small doors- Has feelings of social inadequacy and/or indecision.

  • Bars on the windows- "Keep away."

Tree

  • Leaning to the left- Shadows impulsiveness.

  • Deep Shading- Feelings of inadequacy.

  • Scars on the bark- Shows castration anxiety.

  • Branches more to the right- Has intellectual control.

  • The drawing is placed on the right side of the paper- It means that the client has possible introversion and/or inhibited tendencies, has uncertainty apprehension, negativism or rebellious tendencies.

  • Usually small drawings- Discontent with feelings of inferiority; Timid, shy, excessive defensiveness, and low self-esteem.

  • Sketchy strokes- Insecurity, possible character disturbances.

Person

  • Unusually small head- Feelings of inadequacy; Possible denial.

  • Unusually small eyes- Introversion tendencies; May suggest regression and/or extremely childish.

  • Sharply pointed nose- Possible acting-out tendencies.

  • Unequal shoulders- Personality imbalance.

  • Feet pointing opposite directions- Indicates ambivalence; Possible lack of control.

My reaction? Flabbergasted! Her explanations were 110% precise and accurate to the very last drop, especially the intellectual control part! I was seriously laughing the whole time, to the point that a patient of mine asked if I'm actually one of them! BWAHAHAHA. :D

Why did I took the said exam? Self-awareness. I rationalized that, at some point, an individual should be aware of the reasons behind their unique behavior, whether conscious or unconscious. Also, the results can justify one's personality and acknowledging these results and explanations can lead to a more wholesome self-concept. Ergo, a healthier mental state.

If a prospective lover is reading this distinctive entry, you have been warned beforehand. :)

Coffee, anyone?
